Vincent Rijs volgde diverse fotografieopleidingen: Fotovakschool, Fotogram, de Masteropleiding aan het ImageLab en analoge fotografische beeldprocessen bij Huis Marseille te Amsterdam. Hij was tot 1 oktober 2010 verbonden aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie te Amsterdam en vestigde zich daarna als autonoom fotograaf.

In de afgelopen jaren heeft Vincent solo-exposities gehad in meerdere Amsterdamse galeries, een gezamenlijke expositie in Arti et Amicitae en zijn portfolio is o.m.vertegenwoordigd in Vogue Italia. “Een vergrendeld paradijs, de verloren vleugels (onschuld?) zijn vaak terugkerende motieven in het fotografische werk van Vincent Rijs.

Artist Statement

Vincent Rijs is a storyteller. His work is characterized by a distinctive use of light, rich colours, and carefully styled subjects. His photographs often resemble 17th-century Dutch paintings, echoing masters of light such as Rembrandt and Vermeer. His work is also influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite style. The images carry a subtle sense of surrealism—nothing is quite as it seems; there is always an underlying narrative.

CNCPT13 is an art gallery and lifestyle furniture concept space where artists, designers, and stylists collaborate. For each exhibition, founders Robert van Rijk and Marcel Sluiman invite an interior stylist to create an environment in which the artworks and the space merge into a cohesive whole. The viewer enters a world where art is not separate, but fully integrated into the experience. Behind the Mirror was styled by Mare Bohlander and Patrick Muller (PM Projects).
